How to Get to Heaven
Becoming a Christian isn't about becoming religious. It's about coming into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
We believe Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. He became man without ceasing to be God, was born of the virgin Mary, and lived a sinless life to reveal God and redeem sinful people. Through His death on the cross and resurrection, He fully completed our redemption — making eternal life in Heaven available to anyone who places their faith in Him.
He loved you so much that He proved it by giving His life for you.
How to have a personal relationship with Jesus
1. Recognize your condition.
To find the way to eternal life with God, we must first admit we are lost in sin. Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." Sin is anything contrary to God's holiness, and it separates us from Him. Romans 6:23 reminds us, "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
2. Religion and good works are not the answer.
Many systems of religion seem logical, but no human effort can bridge the gap created by our sin. Proverbs 14:12 says, "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." Ephesians 2:8–9 makes it clear: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."
3. The good news — Jesus Christ provided the way.
Though we were separated from God, He loved us so much that He sent His Son to die on the cross and rise again three days later. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Jesus became our substitute — taking the punishment for our sin so we don't have to.
4. Repent and believe to receive the free gift.
To have a relationship with God and an eternal home in Heaven, we must turn from our sin and our own efforts to save ourselves, and place our full trust in Jesus Christ alone. Romans 10:13 promises, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." If you'll call out to God today — admit you're a sinner, ask Him to forgive you, and trust in Jesus alone — He promises to save you.
